| Website Update 2008 |
| The purpose of this website is: |
| to show landscapes of the Scottish Highlands that are under threat from a proposed 400 kV overhead power line | ||
| to publicise the campaign against large scale pylons in the Highlands, emphasising the less damaging alternatives | ||
| to provide people with the information that they need to make their minds up | ||
| to encourage people to write an effective letter of opposition. | ||
| Highlands before Pylons is a voluntary organisation whose aim is to protect and conserve the beautiful landscapes and natural habitats of the Highlands, for the benefit of local residents, visitors, and future generations. |
| We are specifically opposed to major new high voltage transmission lines through wild and scenic areas in which there are presently no such structures. Our message is that there are alternatives! |
| We support renewable energy, but believe that the visual impact of power plant and overhead cables should be recognised in assessing the overall environmental benefit. |
