Website Update 2008

The purpose of this website is:
to show landscapes of the Scottish Highlands that are under threat from a proposed 400 kV overhead power line
to publicise the campaign against large scale pylons in the Highlands, emphasising the less damaging alternatives
to provide people with the information that they need to make their minds up
to encourage people to write an effective letter of opposition.
Highlands before Pylons is a voluntary organisation whose aim is to protect and conserve the beautiful landscapes and natural habitats of the Highlands, for the benefit of local residents, visitors, and future generations.
We are specifically opposed to major new high voltage transmission lines through wild and scenic areas in which there are presently no such structures. Our message is that there are alternatives!
We support renewable energy, but believe that the visual impact of power plant and overhead cables should be recognised in assessing the overall environmental benefit.
